What Are the Types of Gas Hoses?

Gas safety cannot be ignored, especially in the selection of the gas hose at home. However, some friends have insufficient understanding of gas hoses, leading to mistakenly using water pipes as gas pipes.

Little did they know that there are major safety hazards in doing so. Once gas leaks occur, the consequences can be unimaginable. Some friends say that steel-wire hoses should be used for safety, while others say it is unnecessary or that metal hoses should be used.

Everyone's opinions differ, but ultimately it all boils down to a lack of understanding of the gas hose. So, which type of gas hose is safer and more practical?

Types of gas hoses

Rubber and plastic

Rubber and plastic gas hoses were the earliest types of hoses used for gas. Rubber hoses were mainly used during the era of coal gas.

They mainly consist of rubber, generally have three layers with anti-corrosion rubber used for the inner and outer layers, and a middle layer made of fiber braids to increase pressure resistance. Currently, many gas hoses are made of PVC materials with various numbers of layers, at least three layers with anti-corrosion PVC material used for the inner and outer layers, and a fiber braiding layer in between. Some are also made with steel wire braids to increase pressure resistance, and some can have up to five layers.

Advantages:

Cheap, flexible, and simple to connect.

Armored gas hose

Armored gas hoses are a type of metal hose, consisting of three layers with a plastic hose used for the innermost layer, a metal winding tube in the middle, and a flame-retardant and corrosion-resistant PVC protective cover for the outer layer.

Advantages:

Not easily worn or bitten by rodents, not easily bent, and flexible.

Aluminum-plastic gas hose

Aluminum-plastic gas hoses generally have three layers, with polyethylene used for the inner and outer layers and aluminum for the middle layer.

Advantages:

Strong pressure resistance, the entire hose can be used for underground laying, not easily bitten by rodents, not easily aged, and corrosion-resistant.

Stainless steel corrugated gas hose

Stainless steel corrugated tubes are a type of gas hose that has become popular in recent years. They mainly consist of two layers, a stainless steel corrugated tube and a PVC exterior protective layer.

Advantages:

Strong pressure resistance, the entire hose can be used for underground laying, not easily bitten by rodents, not easily aged, corrosion-resistant, and good plasticity.

Which type of gas hose is safe and practical?

Of the four types of gas hoses we have introduced, stainless steel corrugated gas hoses are the safest and most practical, and are currently the recommended type of gas hose.

Rubber and plastic hoses are prone to aging, wear, and rodent biting, so they are not safe. Aluminum-plastic hoses are generally not used for gas equipment connections due to their poor flexibility. Although armored metal hoses can prevent rodent bites, their joints are still prone to aging and are not safe. Therefore, for now, stainless steel corrugated gas hoses are the safest and most practical.

Gas hoses are a very important part of household gas safety. Choosing a good gas hose will greatly increase the safety of gas usage at home.

SEAPEAK has introduced the four common types of gas hoses and explained whether steel-wire hoses must be used. Currently, the safest and most practical type of gas hose is stainless steel corrugated hose. We hope that everyone will pay attention to safety when dealing with gas.
